FALL IN SF: COZY RIBBED SWEATERS & PLAID WOOL SKIRTS

As we are inching towards the holidays and the new year (ahhhh!), I am clinging onto the last stretch of fall by prancing around the city wearing my casual fall staples. Here in San Francisco, everyday is sweater weather, and sometimes it is easy to lose track of the seasons here. Therefore, I made sure to dig up my wool favorites in order to create an earthy, deeper-hue outfit to celebrate what was my favorite season back east. Although I do miss the quintessential New England fall experience (colorful leaves, brisk autumn air, going apple picking), me currently living in a colorful city packed with gorgeous parks and aerial views seems like a fair trade-off!

Sweater:

Before I go into my outfit details, I want to point out just how beautiful my neighborhood, Noe Valley, is. The hills here are steep, and I am often gasping for breath walking around – but the views are endless and I always catch myself stopping in awe to take it all in.

I wore this burgundy ribbed wool sweater I bought from Lafayette 148 New York a few seasons ago. I find myself reaching for this over and over again because it is so warm and versatile, I can wear this oversized piece as is with jeans, or tuck it into a skirt (which is what I did here). Although this exact sweater is sold out, I definitely recommend buying knits from this brand – their quality is excellent. I have no issues with pilling, holes or discoloration after two years of constant wear.

Admittedly, this sweater is pricey, so for my readers looking for options with affordable price tags, I have included similar styles below to complete the perfect fall outfit.

Skirt:

Not only is plaid the unofficial print for autumn, it is also the perfect transition piece from fall to winter, therefore, I like to find clothing that I can wear in both seasons. This Madewell skirt is a great example of how I can mix and match throughout the cold and then the colder months. Made out of wool, this piece is thick, warm, yet breathable.

I am wearing a size 00 and I still have room to stuff my sweater without it looking like it’s too bulky. This skirt hits me a little below mid-thigh, if I wear black stockings underneath, I can wear this to work with something dressier on top (note: since I work in tech, my company has a pretty casual dress code, this may not be super appropriate for somebody working in finance or another industry).

Booties:

I paired my outfit with tan suede ankle booties from Vince Camuto. The perforated leather creates a unique look and also gives the boots a little bit of stretch. I typically wear a 7M in Vince Camuto shoes which is true to my size, but still leaves enough room for socks. I find Vince Camuto booties in general to be very comfortable and easy to break in to – the 2 inch stacked heels adds polish yet makes them very walkable.

I borrowed my friend’s colorful stairs outside her apartment to show off my shoes. We thought it would be fun to do a silly photoshoot 🙂

Below are some similar styles from Vince Camuto:
