Happy 2020 everybody! There is nothing like spending the holidays and ringing in the New Year with family in Wisconsin. Although what I’m sharing below isn’t the warmest outfit for visiting the midwest in the winter, the ensemble complete with a cropped sweater is definitely more doable in San Francisco most months of the year.
P.S. The wonderful painting in the background is by the super talented Helen Wu.
Sweater & Jeans:
This Topshop V-neck Cropped Cardigan is available at Nordstrom in both orange and black. The top is loose fitting, the sleeves are wide, and the length hits me exactly at the waist (for reference, I am 5’4 wearing an XS). If I am not raising my arms, the front of the sweater rests above my naval and the back is slightly longer.
For those looking for a higher crop, I simply just tug the back of the sweater to lift up the front a bit more like below. This can be worn with a camisole underneath in case you do not want to show your mid-rift. You can also buy this a couple of sizes up to make it a cute chunky sweater for a cozier look.
I paired this cropped sweater with high rise jeans from Madewell so that I can hide my food baby after Christmas dinner. It is no secret that I love Madewell jeans (and Madewell in general) because every pair I own are such great quality and fit really well. I finally traded in some of my skinny jeans and bought my first non-skinny (*gasp*) pair in the cropped straight-leg style. Honestly, these jeans are so comfortable and flattering. Not only was I able to move around in them freely without the constraints of skin-tight denim, but the higher waistband also sucked in my middle area, even after I had 4 pieces of my mom’s delicious chocolate cake.
Belt & Necklace:
For accessories, I wore this Snake Buckle Belt from Express in black with gold hardware. For those who are wondering, yes, this belt is inspired by the Gucci Snake Buckle Belt. However, the design from Gucci is more intricate, and the band is genuine leather (whereas the Express belt is faux leather). With that said, the Express belt is only a fraction of the price, feels like it is made out of good quality, and makes any outfit look edgy and on-trend.
I also wore a vertical bar necklace from Francesca’s to fill in the v-neckline in gold to match the belt’s buckle. Below I have linked necklaces in similar styles.
