Overall, I don’t really describe my style as “boho-chic”, in fact, if you look in my closet, you’ll be sure to find more button-downs and sweaters versus crochet clothes, fringe tops, or bold, flowery patterns. Although I have been on a bell-sleeve and round sunglasses kick lately, I must admit that I generally play it safe with my classic, simple, monochrome wardrobe. I truly do envy those people who can pull off the bohemian, hippy style – they just look so unique, carefree, and cool.
Luckily for me, I had a chance to emulate the style (an imposter bohemian fashionista, if you will) when I found a really fun wide-sleeved top with fringes and cut-out patterns (currently on sale!). Of course, I added a little bit of my own flair with preppy accessories too.
Top:
Nanette Lepore Bahama Mama
This slipover top comes with two pieces: an intricate open-work lace cover and a tank top to wear underneath. I can also imagine this as cute beachwear if you replace the slip with a swim suit underneath. This top’s material is 100% cotton making it quite breathable despite it being a tad bit heavy.
I absolutely adore the sleeves of this top. Although it is very wide (pretty much rectangular in shape), it drapes nicely off my shoulders. Below, you can see some goofy photos of me playing around with the sleeves.
Jeans:
Joe’s Icon Skinny Jeans – Diagonal Frayed
As a denim lover, one of my favorite brands is Joe’s Jeans. My legs are very muscular, especially my calves, probably attributed to the amount of walking around in the city I do in addition to running everyday. Therefore, finding flattering and comfortable jeans can be really difficult; unfortunately, the amount of bulk I have tend to make my legs look like meatloaf if I wear the wrong type of pants.
Ever since I tried on several pairs from Joe’s Classic Skinny line many years ago, I have been a loyal customer since. They were the first pair of jeans I have splurged on and it was worth every penny despite me being the broke college student that I was at the time. Their skinny jeans make my legs look shapely, and their denim in general is extremely soft and easy to move around in. They also get so much wear – my last pair of Joe’s skinny jeans lasted me two years before I finally wore a hole in them. And let me tell you, I wore those jeans several times a week AND my thighs touch (so you can image the amount of rubbing they endured)!
To compliment this outfit, I wore my Joe’s Icon Tulip Hem Ankle Jeans. I love the diagonal bottoms, they add a little bit of flair to an otherwise classic style. I linked the same pair with a different wash; mine is currently sold out, but it is in a darker color Joe’s calls “Nurie.” If you like the color, they also have the wash in the regular skinny style without the frayed bottoms. I wear a size 24 in their brand and it fits perfectly. They tend to stretch out a tiny bit after constant wears, but not to the point where I have to hitch them up.
Handbag:
Yves Saint Laurent Medium College Handbag
Yves Saint Laurent handbags have been giving Chanel a run for their money lately. Yes, I know that they are two completely different brands, and that it is unfair to compare them side by side. However, you can’t deny that the gorgeous quilted cross-body flap bags YSL have in their collection are a great alternative for those who can’t afford a Chanel quite yet since they are sold for about half the price point (with that being said, I will never give up on you Chanel Jumbo of my dreams).
My bag is made from calfskin, a very smooth and soft leather that does require some babying since it scratches more easily than pebbled leather. What I love most about this purse is the gunmetal silver hardware. It makes this bag more versatile and simpler to pair with other articles of clothing. For this outfit, I took off the chained cross-body strap and held it brief-case style.
I haven’t had this bag for very long, but I would like to do a full review of how it holds up after I take it out a few times more, so stay tuned!
Shoes: (plus mini review)
Stuart Weitzman Mira Mules
To add a pop of color to this fun, but safe color-wise outfit, I pulled out my yellow suede Mira Mules from Stuart Weitzman. Besides the fact that they are easy to slip in and out of, the pointed toes also make these shoes look so polished yet minimalist, (yes, even if it is bright yellow) and really sleek in general. I also love how the heels are flared and angled, which not only adds a hint of modernistic design, but also contributes to the overall comfort of the shoes. I mean seriously, it’s nice to walk around in heels that doesn’t feel as if you are balancing on a pair of chopsticks every once in awhile.
I typically wear a size 6.5-7M in shoes. Because these mules are pointed, I anticipated getting the 7M since I have wider-than-normal feet, but to my surprise, the 6.5M fit nicely. I have also noticed that they have stretched a little bit since I’ve worn them, making them extremely comfortable. NOTE: Many reviewers of these shoes size a half size smaller than what they normally wear, but if you have wide feet like mine, they are true to size!
The first time I have worn these, I walked and stood for hours and they were pleasantly easy to break in to. I also didn’t get any blisters, which probably is because these are mules and I typically get rubbings on my ankles. A lot of mules I own also either have a huge gap at the top causing the shoe to slide around as I walk OR they are too tight, sometimes cutting the top of my feet – ouch! Thankfully, this mule didn’t have any of these issues, and the inside leather is so soft and high-quality that the top didn’t irritate me at all as I was breaking into them.
These mules also come in so many different colors and types of leather besides suede as well! I am seriously contemplating buying some more classic looking ones such as the cabernet suede as I’m gearing up for fall or the black non-suede style for every season (except maybe winter).
I love these mules too. they are so comfortable. well, not surprising at all. All the stuart weitzman shoes i own are.

Those shoes are so fun, I’ve been wanting to add more color into my shoe game and I have my eye on a pair of blue suede ones…
I LOVE stuart weitzman. The yellow is gorgeous! His shoes are super comfy and fashionable. Now i have to go shopping =)
i love this entire outfit, but these shoes are the show-stopper! I love the color and they are so cute on!
I absolutely adore this outfit! I don’t think I’ve ever seen tulip hem Jean’s, but I need 6 pairs in my life asap! The Mules are so cute and I’m not typically a fan of the style, but those are lovely.
Those shoes are so fierce! I love the color! And that blouse!
Thank you for your review. I love the pop of color!
That is a cute outfit! I love those pants.
These are probably the cutest MULES I’ve ever seen! I am also in love with your bag
